The Bell that Rang in Liberty
A gentle Independence Day Story to inspire the youngest hearts and minds.
The Bell That Rang in Liberty
In 1776, one hot, bright day,
a great thing happened in Philadelphia PA.
Our founding fathers penned words that shone -
that said our country was our own.
Then all at once—a sudden swing!
A mighty bell rang Ding-dong-ding!
The stirring sound did fill the air,
and all eyes turned towards State House Square.
The baker left his baking pan,
The children dropped their toys and ran.
The blacksmith laid his hammer down,
And hurried quickly into town.
"Why’s it ringing?" the people cried.
They gathered close from far and wide.
A sense of excitement most profound,
All wondered why their bell did sound.
Then suddenly, the ringing stopped.
The talking ceased, and hats were dropped.
A man stepped up to speak out loud,
Above the hushed and eager crowd.
He held a paper, crisp and new,
And read a message, brave and true:
"We are a new-made land today!
We’ll build our future, our own way!"
The people cheered, the children sang,
And once again, the great bell rang!
It called them close, it made them one—
The story of our land begun!
